Psychotherapist / Psychologist Practitioner Role
Location – Field based, across the West Midlands and Northamptonshire
Salary – up to £55k DOE and Qualifications
This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service with Resicare Alliance and ICIS Limited. The service aims to improve young peoples’ well-being and psychological functioning to promote the process of reunification back to a familial environment. The main treatments consist of weekly individual and group therapy sessions over 18-to-24-month periods utilizing a variety of psychological interventions both with the young person and family members. We would provide the post-holder with training and supervision commensurate with their role. The post holder will be involved in assessments of the young people and deliver individual and group-based work. The treatment formulations will involve a highly structured treatment frame and a thorough diagnostic assessment process.
Specialist consultation to the young person services is also part of the role, supporting staff in working with young people and families.
We would train the post-holder in facilitating a SUN group. ‘Service User Network’ groups are coping skills and crisis planning groups. These use a containing structure, drawing on the ideas of group members to support each other.
The post holder would need a postgraduate qualification in psychology (research, clinical, forensic, applied, etc) and/or therapeutic qualification and experience of working with young people, and learning disability and mental health experience. We will consider other disciplines such as social work background and community youth workers with relevant qualifications.
Job Purpose:
- To work as a member of the Clinical Service providing specialist assessment and treatment of young people and families.
- To help other staff, service users and carers to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe and therapeutic environment.
- To provide individual and group therapy in and facilitate Service User Network groups (SUN) in the community.
- To work as a link worker with other mental health teams, consulting to staff and co-facilitating groups in primary and secondary-care multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Client Care
- To provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions for young people and families.
- To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions with young people or families.
- To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans pertaining to young people.
- To act as keyworker, taking responsibility for reviewing care plans, and arranging TAC meetings.
Contributing to team or service clinical functioning
- To contribute to the effective working of the Clinical Service and to a psychologically informed framework for the service.
- To contribute to the team or service’s delivery of accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
- To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
- To liaise with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with young people in order to develop and review care plans.
Policy and service development
- To implement policies and procedures in own area of work, and to propose improvements or beneficial changes.
- To contribute to the consultation and engagement of young people in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of the services.
- To contribute to service development through undertaking and participating in appropriate projects.
Care or management of resources
- To take care of, and use carefully, the organisation’s equipment and physical resources.
- To ensure that the post-holder has sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting or ordering supplies as needed.
Management and supervision
- To supervise clinical practitioners within own area of specialism after completion of the relevant Supervision Training.
- To be responsible for the allocation and/or clinical supervision of the work of an assistant psychologist if required, under supervision from a more senior psychologist.
- The post holder will receive monthly management supervision and clinical supervision every two months.
Teaching and Training
- To provide occasional specialist training in psychological approaches to care to other professions within services as appropriate.
- To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and reports.
Record-keeping and Information Governance
- To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by the organisations policies and procedures.
- To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and organisation guidelines, including electronic data entry.
Research and development
- To undertake regular complex service evaluation, audits or research relevant to service needs.
Maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development
- To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from the clinical lead within the organisation.
- To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with your relevant registering body and/or in accordance with HCPC, BPS, UKCP, BPC, BACP etc, and for both the Organisational Personal Development Plan requirements.
- To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies.
- To adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
General
- To travel to home visits, community team bases, team meetings, residential homes and across the organisation when required. The role will be hybrid consisting of both face to face and virtual attendance
- To be aware of risk relating to aggressive and challenging behaviour amongst the young people and follow organisational policies relating to its management.
- To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing such as challenging behaviour and to support others involved in such situations.
Education:
- Postgraduate qualification (Essential)
Experience:
- Working within therapeutic services – minimum of 2 years
- Health and Social Care background: minimum of 2 years
- Working with children and young people: minimum of 2 years
- Driving license is essential
