We require an innovative, highly motivated and inspirational SEN Teaching Assistant to join a newly created Independent Specialist School. You will be part of an exceptional group of highly skilled Teachers, Higher Levels Teaching Assistants and support staff who work collaboratively to provide a highly personalised curriculum.
What is the purpose of the role:
The main purpose of this post is to provide exciting and highly engaging assistance to the teaching who delivers an appropriate curriculum that meets the needs of each pupil in accordance with the EHCP outcomes and the school’s fundamental pillars of learning. This will involve ongoing and close liaison with carers, therapists, colleagues and other professionals and the management of a class team.
Role requirements:
Teacher Assistant Level 1 or equivalent training
Experience of working with students with SEND

Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons aligned with EHCPs and the National Curriculum.
Use a range of strategies, including visual aids, assistive technology, and sensory supports, to cater to diverse learning styles.
Monitor and assess pupil progress regularly, setting SMART targets for improvement.
Student Support
Foster students’ communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation through targeted interventions.
Implement individualized strategies to manage sensory needs and reduce anxiety.
Promote independence and life skills development.
Collaboration and Partnerships
Liaise with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to support student development.
Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing regular updates on progress and strategies for home support.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to review and adapt Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs.
Classroom and Behaviour Management
Maintain a calm and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behavior.
Ensure all students feel safe, valued, and included.
Professional Development
Engage in ongoing CPD, particularly in areas related to SLCN and ASD.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and contribute to the wider school community.
Safeguarding and Compliance
Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare of all pupils.
Maintain accurate records in line with school policies and statutory requirements.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Qualifications and Experience
Experience of working in and alongside a range of SEND profiles and have a TA qualification.
Proven experience of supporting students with SLCN and/or ASD.
Knowledge of EHCP processes and SEND Code of Practice.
Skills and Knowledge
Strong understanding of strategies for teaching students with communication difficulties and sensory needs.
Ability to adapt and support teaching styles to suit diverse learners.
Skilled in fostering emotional well-being and resilience among students.
Personal Attributes
Patient, empathetic, and resilient in challenging situations.
A proactive team player with excellent communication skills.
Commitment to inclusive education and continuous professional growth.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, such as PECS or Makaton.
